Science Fition

Not appearing in Compulsive Reading.
[but still great reading]

Kim Stanley Robinson

  • Red Mars
  • Green Mars
  • Blue Mars
  • Robinson's vision of the colonization of Mars is fascinating.  The characters and politics continue throughout all 3 novels.  The Science behind the novels is believable and speaks of extraordinary research.  Great reading.

    Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle

  • The Legacy of Heorot (with Steven Barnes)
  • Beowulf's Children (with Steven Barnes)
  • The Mote in God's Eye
  • The Gripping Hand
  • Footfall
  • Oath of Fealty
  • Lucifer's Hammer
  • Niven & Pournelle are simply an unbeatable team.  I've been reading them for years.  Here are a few of my favorites.  The first two on the list are related as are the next two.  Oath of Fealty and Lucifer's Hammer are probably two of my favorite novels.  [Both are "near-future" novels and still believable since originally published.]
    Gregory Benford
    Heart of the Comet
    among others ...
Sadly, "Heart" is out of print.  A fascinating premise though.  Utilize the comet for colonization & research, and the politics of survival ...

True Space Opera. Clearly defined good guys and bad guys with a strong "Battle of Britain" feel.  Fun reading!

    Elizabeth Moon

    Herris Serano

I first became hooked on Moon when The Deed of Paksenarrion was published.  Superior novel.  Imagine my surprise when I came upon these SF novels.  Great fun to read, strong characters and a very different premise for the stories.

    Zenna Henderson
    The People: No different Flesh
Pilgrimage: the Book of the People

Ingathering The complete People Stories of Zenna Henderson

There was something magical about her stories of "The People".  For years I had the paperback anthologies, but lost them between moves.   Now I was able to find a hardcopy of Ingathering!  Wonderful to have the complete set of stories in one volume!  Quick reads, you're in for a treat if you get your hands on any of them!  Maybe you'll see some in a used book store or garage sales. but Ingathering is in print.
